Nissan recognized the need to significantly expand their Decherd engine production facility in order to keep stride with their newly developed assembly facilities. They chose Gresham Smith to provide mechanical and electrical design for the 60,000-standard-cubic-feet-per-minute, water-cooled, compressed-air plant.

The project, a design-build teaming effort with U.S. Engineering, included design of all electrical service to the building, provisions for the cooling tower and pumping system, and piping arrangement for the air and condenser water piping. The project incorporated Nissan-supplied compressors and controls into a 5,000-square-foot building footprint.

The project was completed well ahead of schedule, and today the facility manufactures all engines for the complete lineup of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles produced in the U.S.
