The City of Columbus, Ohio's Department of Public Utilities (DPU) wished to develop and implement an EMS based on ISO 14001 to address the DPU’s numerous facilities and programs. GS&P worked in collaboration with the department to develop a system that provides a structure to facilitate long-term environmental regulatory compliance, and manages and reduces the DPU’s overall environmental impact.
This project follows GS&P’s successful completion of a comprehensive environmental audit for the DPU, the results of which served as a vital component in developing measurable objectives and targets, and helped to set priorities and schedules for the implementation plan. GS&P also provided the DPU with EMS software assistance, EMS outreach programs and assistance with conducting monthly core team and steering team meetings.
The EMS provides the department a comprehensive system to identify and evaluate environmental legal requirements, and reduce overall environmental impacts and associated regulatory compliance risks. The system reduces inefficiencies, decreases work disruptions, improves morale and generates positive public perception.
