Data Governances Needs and Approach

Presentation by Gresham Smith Senior Transportation Engineer Meredith Cebelak, Ph.D., P.E., and OST Inc. Vice President Sonu Goel

Data has always had a strategic value, but the magnitude of data provided by the latest innovative technologies has made it one of our biggest assets. By establishing the right level of data governance to manage data, organizations can build trust and enhance data sharing.  By adopting predictive analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, ITS can provide significant insights into different aspects of transportation such as operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and safety. During this session, Meredith and Sonu will discuss industry best practices for data governance and innovative approaches to facilitate fact based decision making.

ATSPMs in Action: A Case Study on the Paul Huff Parkway Corridor of Cleveland, TN

Presentation by Gresham Smith Middle Tennessee Transportation Leader Andy Lucyshyn, P.E., PTOE, Miovision Account Manager Scott Dolson and Miovision Events Manager Lisa Wilhelm

The continuous nature of high resolution automated traffic performance data (ATSPM), which happens all hours of the day every day, reveals performance trends that can help improve traffic performance. In this presentation, presenters will explore a case study where ATSPM data revealed a very significant drop in performance in the early hours of the day along a corridor in Cleveland, TN, that was not specifically accommodated for in the original signal timing plan. Presenters will detail how they identified the issue, developed a solution, evaluated the impacts, and implemented the chances, all using the performance data driven approach.
