“Sometimes to create, you must first destroy,” is a popular quote from Greek mythology, and it rang true this past Saturday when hundreds of Nashville business and community leaders gathered at Union Station Hotel to witness the implosion of Draper Tower. Blocks of downtown streets were closed for the 9:30 a.m. implosion, which helped clear the site for the future Hyatt Regency hotel.

The hotel will be the first project constructed at Nashville Yards, the 15-acre mixed-use development that my teammates and I have been designing for the last couple of years. Nashville Yards is planned for several blocks on downtown’s western edge, stretching from Broadway to Church Street. It will create a new gateway to Nashville’s urban core and transform the city’s skyline, adding more than 4-million square feet of entertainment, retail, office and residential space. GS&P is excited to have such an important role in designing Nashville’s future, and we’re committed to creating a space that celebrates our city’s roots and is truly people-centric. Take a look at the highlight video below to hear more about the project and browse through the latest renderings for a glimpse of what’s to come.
