Created in 1935, the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust supports The Nemours Foundation — a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and improving the health of children via a network of children’s hospitals, clinics and research facilities. The Trust needed to expand their available headquarters space, and at the same time sought to make their presence in downtown Jacksonville more visible.

Located on a pivotal site along Jacksonville’s prominent River Walk landscape, the new Gresham Smith-designed 40,000-square foot headquarters features a four-story glass-roofed atrium and gallery space overlooking the adjacent St. John’s River, and incorporates several sustainable features such as natural daylighting throughout, rooftop gardens, and a cistern for water reuse. Our environmental graphics group worked with the members of the Board of Trust to create a legacy space celebrating the lives of Alfred I. duPont, his wife Jessie Ball duPont and her brother Ed Ball. The gallery includes large illuminated glass portraits, video displays, artifact cases, and a mural reproduction of the first Nemours Children’s Institute.
