Alyson Mandeville and Corie Baker Become GS&P’s First WELL-Accredited Professionals

June 4, 2018

Gresham, Smith and Partners is pleased to announce that Senior Interior Designer Alyson Mandeville, EDAC, WELL AP and Senior Architect Corie E. Baker, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, EDAC, WELL AP have become the firm’s first WELL Accredited Professionals (WELL APTM). The WELL AP credential is a new, leading credential signifying advanced knowledge of health and well-being in the built environment and specialization in the WELL Building Standard. Mandeville and Baker earned the credential through the International WELL Building Institute, placing them among a group of leading professionals who are dedicated to supporting human health and well-being in the built environment.

“GS&P has long been committed to designing buildings holistically for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing,” said Al Pramuk, P.E., chief executive officer at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “It’s exciting that the International WELL Building Institute is shining a spotlight on these important concepts with their new accreditation. We look forward to the leadership and insight that Alyson and Corie can offer to our clients as a WELL Accredited Professional, and I know other GS&P employees will soon be following in their footsteps.”

“Sustainable design is sometimes more oriented toward environmental health than human health, and human-health measures are often limited to physical improvements like air quality and walkability,” commented Mandeville. “But our team knows that a building is only as healthy as the people who use it every day, and more nuanced design elements that focus on mental and emotional wellness like noise reduction and access to daylight are an essential piece of the puzzle. The WELL Building Institute recognizes that fact and I’m proud to help lead GS&P in incorporating wellbeing more comprehensively into each of our projects.”

WELL APs have successfully passed the WELL AP exam, an assessment based on the expertise of leading practitioners in the field of design, health and wellness in the built environment. It was launched in October of 2014 and was complemented by a comprehensive educational program. The WELL Building Standard is the first building standard to focus exclusively on the health and wellness of the people in buildings. WELL is an evidence and performance-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features that impact human health and well-being in the built environment, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
