With Women in Mind: How Intentionally Designed Healthcare Spaces Benefit the Bottom Line
Presentation by Gresham Smith Senior Interior Designers Carolyn Blake, IIDA, LEED AP, EDAC, and Beth Hiltonen, NCIDQ, IIDA, LEED AP, and AdventHealth Gordon Chief Nursing Officer Amy Jordan
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, women make approximately 80 percent of healthcare decisions in the United States. As the Chief Medical Officers in their homes, they set the health and wellness agenda for themselves and their families. A woman’s experience will inevitably shape where she turns for care, and for many this first hospital encounter is in women’s health services.
This presentation will highlight how well-designed women’s care spaces affect the financial health of an institution. While not always the most profitable services at a hospital, women’s services act as important marketing tools and create brand loyalty. Presenters will use the new labor and delivery units at UF Health North and Florida Hospital Waterman, the NICU at Florida Hospital Altamonte and the women’s imaging center at Gordon Hospital as examples of how investing in the patient experience can ultimately impact the bottom line.
