Many consulting firms choose to outsource public engagement efforts, treating them as separate compartments of a project. In contrast, we believe that effective public involvement must be an integral part of the technical effort as it is essential to a plan's success. We have developed solid in-house capabilities for outreach and facilitation and our strong design capabilities enable us to clearly communicate concepts in a nontechnical manner. We use a range of strategies, including dot-map games, investment games and nominal group techniques to get meaningful, balanced feedback from all participants. The results are interactive, often eye-opening sessions that promote inclusion for the public, and provide invaluable insights that the project team uses to enhance the solution.
