Beating Burnout: Penny Houchens Shares Strategies for Designing Healthcare Staff Support Spaces

Gresham Smith Senior Interior Designer Penny Houchens, NCIDQ, IIDA, LEED AP, Lean, has authored an article for Medical Construction & Design magazine discussing how the built environment can elevate the staff experience and workplace culture in healthcare facilities. In the March/April 2022 issue, she examines the Gresham Smith-designed 92-bed inpatient facility at UF Health Jacksonville, using data from a post-occupancy evaluation to draw conclusions about the impact of staff support space design on staff satisfaction and turnover rates.
