Ben Goebel Named Gresham Smith’s Charlotte Office Leader
Aviation Studio Leader Ben Goebel, AIA, NCARB, has been named Gresham Smith’s Charlotte Office Leader effective July 1, 2022.
In this new role, Goebel will oversee operations of the firm’s Charlotte office, which includes more than 40 professionals in Aviation, Corporate + Urban Design, Healthcare and Industrial. Each of the firm’s four markets also have dedicated studio leaders who oversee operations and business development in their respective areas.
Goebel will also take ownership of key relationships in the region, including serving as the firm’s primary representative with the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance. He is also a member of the Uptown Rotary.
He began his career at Gresham Smith in 2008 as an architectural intern, and four years later he rose to deputy project manager for the $1.4 billion Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and then Project Executive for the $800 million modernization of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Prior to moving to Charlotte, Goebel served as the firm’s Fort Lauderdale Office Leader. As Charlotte Aviation Studio Leader, he has played a major part in the design of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Terminal Lobby Expansion as well as other various projects at CLT.

Goebel received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from Ball State University and his Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois. He is active within the aviation and design industry, and he volunteers and participates with the American Institute of Architects, Airport Consultants Council and American Association of Airport Executives.
Goebel replaces Regional Vice President Dave King, AIA, NCARB, who will remain engaged with key client relationships as well as help oversee the firm’s ongoing geographic expansions. Architect Zoë Fisher will replace Goebel as the new Charlotte Aviation Studio Leader.
