Gresham Smith announces that Brenda Shackleford, P.E., has joined the firm as a senior civil engineer in the Land Planning market. Using her 30 years of experience working for both municipalities and as a consultant, she will offer civil design and site development expertise for a broad range of projects including retail developments, healthcare facilities and corporate campuses.

“Gresham Smith has a roster of talent—from surveyors and civil engineers to landscape architects and planners—who develop sites to their fullest potential. I’m excited to contribute my expertise to the team and help tackle the unique challenges and opportunities presented by every plot of land,” said Shackleford. “No two projects are the same, and that’s what makes our industry exciting. I’m looking forward to getting involved with our clients and partners, understanding their goals, and developing innovative solutions to bring their projects to life.”

Prior to joining Gresham Smith, Shackleford was a project manager and partner at Design and Engineering, Inc., where she prepared construction documents for restaurant sites across the country while also developing business on a national scale. She brings additional experience in the municipal realm, having previously worked for the City of Franklin, Tennessee, and the Metro Nashville Public Works Department.

Outside of the office, Shackleford is active in a variety of industry and community organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and AEC Power Women. She has also served as a mentor at Middle Tennessee non-profits, including Safe Haven Family Shelter. Shackleford is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. When she’s not working or volunteering, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, visiting Nashville’s Radnor Lake, national parks across the United States and travel destinations around the world.
