Gresham, Smith and Partners is proud to announce that the firm is set to sponsor Sustain Charlotte’s third annual “Biketoberfest”, a fundraising event dedicated to showcasing how smart transportation planning can create a robust, active community. On Oct. 22, event participants will travel a two-mile protected bicycle lane, visiting booths along the way to learn about the benefits of multi-modal transportation.

“We are excited to be a part of this year’s Biketoberfest event. GS&P has supported Complete Streets designs for many years and we look forward to continuing the efforts to educate people in Charlotte about the benefits of multi-modal transportation,” commented Sean Flaherty, transportation planner, Gresham, Smith and Partners. “After biking through the event loops, people will see that it is becoming easier to get across the city without driving. With the development of Charlotte’s greenway system and the proposed 6th Street Cycle Track, our city’s future is bright when it comes to alternative modes of transportation.”

Employees from the firm’s Charlotte office will host an educational booth along the route, giving riders a chance to tour the GS&P-designed Town Branch Greenway being developed in Lexington, Ky. through virtual reality goggles. They will also educate event participants about the advantages of a Complete Streets design.

GS&P has provided design and engineering services for a variety of multi-modal roadway projects, including pedestrian and bicycle enhancements in the town of Waxhaw, N.C. and a transportation study for the town of Huntersville, N.C.
