Gresham Smith Completes Construction at New Baptist Health Hospital in South Florida

Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the new Baptist Health Hospital in Doral, Florida, has opened its doors to patients. Located in one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, this 45,000 square foot facility will bring top-of-the-line healthcare and emergency services to the City of Doral’s residents.

The two-story hospital is comprised of an emergency department on the first floor, complete with an ambulance drop-off, and imaging center equipped with technology for X-rays, CT scans, and MRI’s. The second floor resembles a more traditional hospital setting, with 15 patient rooms, two operating rooms, exam rooms, physician offices, a pharmacy, and more.

“We are grateful to have had the opportunity to continue our long-standing, successful partnership with Baptist Health, and bring a premiere healthcare facility to the Doral community,” said Gustavo Alfonso, AIA. “This facility has a flexible design that will not only enhance the staff experience, but make certain that all patients can receive quality care. It will be a benefit to the community for years to come.”

The hospital has separate entrances for each floor so that patients and visitors can easily locate and access the services they need. In addition, the nurse stations on both floors are located in the center core to increase visibility for the care teams, and the emergency room layout is arranged by level of acuity, with low acuity services located in the front and high acuity services located in the back. The hospital provides plenty of parking, and it is located right near the entrance to the site, so patients and visitors have convenient access for an enhanced patient experience.

Marking the newest location of Baptist Health services, the Doral hospital was built to decentralize emergency care services, providing residents of the greater-Miami area with increased accessibility and convenience. Baptist Health also saw this as an opportunity to deliver additional services to a community where they had a longstanding commitment, and the building maintains a consistent modern look and cohesive aesthetic to match their other facilities.

“Our Gresham Smith team was dedicated to building a hospital that could be easily recognized as a Baptist Health facility,” said Project Manager Jose Prado. “We wanted to do our part in helping Baptist Health continue to grow and reach new communities. With this project, we really looked at the needs of our client, both experientially and aesthetically.”

Gresham Smith has also designed Baptist Health’s freestanding emergency care centers in Coral Way and Country Walk, as well as an 118,000-square-foot Medical and Wellness complex located in Plantation, Florida.
