Gresham Smith is excited to announce our lead stormwater and deicer management planning and engineering role for the new Amazon CVG Air Cargo Hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The firm is designing the stormwater drainage infrastructure as well as the deicer storage and treatment system, in addition to developing the sediment and erosion control strategy and handling water quantity, water quality and air permitting.

“Amazon’s hub at CVG will help it continue to grow and provide high-quality service to its customers. We are proud to apply our extensive stormwater and deicer expertise to this project,” commented Timothy P. Arendt, P.E., senior environmental engineer, Gresham Smith. “We also bring a critical understanding of CVG’s operations and infrastructure, having worked at the airport on an array of stormwater and deicing projects. Leveraging our technical and institutional knowledge we look forward to providing a holistic, compliant and efficient solution.”

The project will be completed in phases, with the first slated to open in the next few years. Once complete, the Air Cargo Hub will encompass new airside and landside development serviced by an extensive new drainage network. The stormwater and deicer management system includes automated monitoring and diversion, detention for various concentration levels, associated pump stations, plus a deicer treatment system and various other water quality controls. Gresham Smith is employing its award-winning deicing stormwater modeling tool, GlyCAST™, to support the design of the deicer management and treatment system.

The firm has partnered with Woolpert, who is leading site and civil engineering work for the project, as well as AECOM who is serving as overall project lead and lead architect.
