Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm’s interior design for Baptist Health Care Pensacola’s forthcoming health campus was honored by the International Interior Design Association South Florida Chapter with a Best Healthcare Commissioned award. The project team accepted the award at IIDA South Florida’s Annual Interior Design Awards on Thursday, Sept. 30.

“When Gresham Smith was selected to design a new hospital and medical office building for Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, the client requested that we design a facility that would be resilient, sustainable, improve operational efficiency and enhance the human experience,” said Skip Yauger, AIA, LEED AP, senior vice president at Gresham Smith. “We’re honored that our efforts to provide the residents of Northwest Florida with a top-notch healthcare destination have been recognized. When the Pensacola hospital is completed, it will provide a state-of-the-art healthcare experience for patients, staff and the community for decades to come.”

The new health campus, which is currently under construction, sits on a 57-acre site, and will include a 10-story, 264-bed hospital, a six-story, 178,000-square-foot multispecialty health center and a 23,000-square-foot central energy plant. With a design that blends the architecture and interior design seamlessly together warm, handcrafted materials like terracotta, wood, bronze and terrazzo lend depth and a timeless appearance to modern forms. The concept of an ocean horizon as seen from the shore was creatively interpreted into the building’s interiors, using expansive windows to offer sweeping views of the natural landscape and heritage oaks in a park-like center square.

The IIDA South Florida Annual Interior Design Awards honors members and local firms in the commercial interior design profession. These awards encourage advancement in education, design excellence, leadership, and community outreach to increase the value and understanding of interior design. Design awards are bestowed upon members who have demonstrated outstanding creativity and design in interior design or interior architecture.
