Gresham Smith-Designed St. Joseph’s/Candler Brings Healthcare Closer to Home
Gresham Smith announces the completion of the 83,000-square-foot, three-story St. Joseph’s/Candler ambulatory services hub in Pooler, Ga. The new facility aims to attract the region’s younger residents by creating a convenient, welcoming and patient-centric environment and ultimately expand St. Joseph’s/Candler’s market share. Providing easy access, the new 18.3-acre campus is located near two interstates for easy access.

“We are creating an adaptable and efficient space to accommodate future growth and phasing,” said Rick Bouchereau AIA, LEED AP, principal and senior architect at Gresham Smith. “We looked for ways to mitigate barriers between clinical functions to maximize efficiencies and also built in flexibility, including the demountable partitions in the tenant space. It was important that this ambulatory services hub reflect the larger St. Joseph’s/Candler brand while setting the tone for the overall campus and authentically reflecting the community it serves.”
The facility houses ambulatory surgery, including a da Vinci Surgical System powered by robotic technology to support minimally invasive surgery, pre-admission testing, imaging, urgent care, primary care, an OBGYN clinic, shell space and tenant space. It is part of a 10-year multi-phased project. The firm explored future phases of work on the campus, including the potential development of a micro-hospital with overnight capabilities.
Gresham Smith provided planning, architecture, interior design, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering services for the project.
