Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm’s interior designs for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s M.T. Mustian Center and Dozier Atrium, Advent Health Gordon’s new Women’s Center and relocated Obstetrics and Baptist Medical Center Wolfson’s Children’s Emergency Department were honored with design awards by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) North Florida chapter.

“Thoughtfully-designed healthcare spaces benefit patients, their family members and visitors, and staff,” said Healthcare Technical Practice Leader Carolyn Blake, IIDA, LEED AP, EDAC. “We’re honored to be recognized by the IIDA North Florida chapter for they way our designs elevate the human experience while also benefitting the communities they serve.”

The M.T. Mustian Center and Dozer Atrium at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital was honored in the healthcare large category. The 72-bed, 347,000-square-foot surgery and critical care tower provides state-of-the-art critical care services with cutting-edge adult intensive care units to meet the growing demand in the region. The firm’s interior designers incorporated evidence-based design solutions for improved patient outcomes and satisfaction, including designated staff respite areas, a layout that minimizes noise and patient movement, and comfortable family lounge spaces. The team also upgraded the entrance experience, incorporating high ceilings, natural light and cohesive finishes to create a feeling reminiscent of an art gallery.

The upgraded Women’s Center and Obstetrics Department at Advent Health Gordon Hospital was honored in the healthcare medium category. By focusing on amenities that create a calm, spa-like environment, as well as implementing design features that enhance efficiency, the new space provides comprehensive maternal care and diagnostics in a convenient, relaxing space that was thoughtfully designed with women in mind.

The Baptist Medical Center Wolfson’s Children’s Emergency Department was honored in the healthcare small category. The new dedicated Children’s Emergency Department, which provides care close to home for parents in the Jacksonville suburbs, takes patients “under the sea” with a colorful ocean design concept. Restrooms are right-sized for pediatric patients, while efficient team spaces elevate care.
