Gresham Smith is proud to announce that with its support the Mississippi Department of Transportation was awarded a $52.4 million grant for a road widening project in Itawamba County.

The Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant was awarded to MDOT for the construction of a four-lane highway and an 8.3-mile extension of State Route 76 to Interstate 22. This corridor is the last stretch of highway between the Toyota plant in Blue Springs, Miss., and the Toyota-Mazda joint production facility in Huntsville, Ala., that is not four lanes.

State Route 76 forms a part of the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS) in Mississippi. The $96 million project will complete the final portion of the ADHS Corridor V runs from Interstate 55 in Batesville to Interstate 24 in Chattanooga, Tenn., connecting intermodal facilities in the three states, including the Port of Huntsville and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.

“We’re proud to support MDOT in this critical work that will help generate more economic growth in Northeast Mississippi,” said Randy Battey, P.E., state transportation leader for Mississippi, Gresham Smith. “Gresham Smith has a long history of helping our clients identify and obtain funding for transportation projects throughout the Southeast.”

Gresham Smith supported MDOT by providing project management services, research, application development, a cost-benefit analysis and a project website. The firm also helped MDOT obtain letters of support and manage other stakeholder comments.

Over the last few years, Gresham Smith has been successful in helping MDOT secure a number of discretionary federal grants, including a $25 million grant in 2018 for SR 19 road and bridge improvements and a $7 million grant in 2017 for the Hightower Road Corridor.
