Gresham Smith Names Arlen Sandlin Kentucky State Transportation Leader
Gresham Smith is excited to announce that Arlen Sandlin, P.E., has been named Kentucky State Transportation Leader. Sandlin replaces Jim Brannon, P.E., who has been elevated to Market Vice President of Transportation beginning on Jan. 1, 2022.
Sandlin joined the firm earlier this year with nearly 25 years of experience in transportation engineering. Over his long career, he has worked in every Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) district on highway projects ranging from small urban developments to major arterials, interstate highways and complex interchanges.
In his new role, he will oversee the Transportation market’s award-winning portfolio in Kentucky, which includes a number of significant contracts with KYTC such as the statewide highway safety improvement program and the statewide utility management contact. Other major work includes:
- The reconstruction of Kentucky 9, winner of ACEC Kentucky’s 2021 Grand Conceptor Award
- Soon-to-be completed projects such as Town Branch Commons and multiple sections of the Louisville Loop
- New starts such as Kentucky 237 and US 79
“Arlen is a seasoned veteran in our industry, and we’re excited to have him take the wheel of our thriving transportation practice in Kentucky,” said Kent Black, P.E., Executive Vice President of Transportation at Gresham Smith. “With his extensive past management experience, he’s poised to take our Kentucky Transportation practice to the next level.”
A Hazard, Kentucky native, he is a lifelong Kentuckian and received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and master of business administration from the University of Kentucky.
