Gresham Smith announces that the firm provided Metro Water Services (MWS) with construction management services for the Brick Church Pike equalization facility on Nashville’s Ewing Creek, as well as sewer pipe improvements along Brick Church Pike. The project is part of the Clean Water Nashville Overflow Abatement Program, a $1.5 billion initiative aimed at promoting the environmental health of the Cumberland River and enhancing water quality for the greater Nashville community.

“Our team is proud to be working with Metro Water Services to manage improvements to Nashville’s sewer system,” commented Mark Warriner, P.E., senior vice president at Gresham Smith. “By reducing sewer overflows into the Cumberland River and the city’s other rivers, creeks and tributaries during wet weather, we can reduce health risks and improve water quality for Davidson County residents.”

As the construction manager, Gresham Smith oversaw project implementation and monitored construction quality for the equalization facility’s 10.6-million-gallon concrete storage tank and 18-million-gallon-a-day pump station, as well as 9,800-linear-feet of gravity sewer pipe replacement. The project team also focused on controlling project costs, using cost-tracking systems and a change management program.

Since 2011, Gresham Smith has worked with MWS as construction manager for the Clean Water Nashville Overflow Abatement Program. As of January 2018, the firm has managed sewer rehabilitation, conveyance, pump station and equalization projects, including more than 600,000 linear feet of gravity sewer and force mains and more than 3,300 manholes.
