Gresham Smith to Design Roadway Improvements Along US-60 in Louisville

Gresham Smith has been selected by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to design a congestion and safety improvement project along a corridor of US-60 in the city of Louisville in Jefferson County.

The state funded project will address approximately half a mile of US-60 from Old Shelbyville Road to North English Station Road. As a result of the expected increased traffic due to major transportation and development changes in the Louisville Metro area, as well as the high number of crashes, Gresham Smith will work with KYTC to develop solutions that decrease congestion, enhance safety, reduce friction and provide better signal coordination along the corridor.

“Our Louisville-based team of roadway and utility designers are very familiar with the challenges along this section of US-60 and witness the operational conditions that affect driver behavior daily,” said Jim Brannon, P.E., Kentucky state transportation leader at Gresham Smith. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with KYTC and improving the corridor capacity for long-term use.”

Through the agreement, Gresham Smith will provide engineering and design services to improve the corridor’s overall function. This includes traffic and safety engineering analysis, public involvement activities, planning, traffic modeling, signal analysis and surveying. Under the contract, the firm will provide a balanced approach of enhancing capacity while maximizing safety and operational efficiency, an important theme as KYTC strives for zero deaths on the state’s roadways.
