LABash is a landscape architecture conference that brings hundreds of students and professionals together to learn, network and help shape the future of the profession. The presentation will highlight their individual perspective and experience within a multi-disciplinary practice, as well as alongside fellow Landscape Architects.

Below is a summary of their presentation.

Leveraging YOU in a Multi-Disciplinary Firm

Presented by Morgan Dunay, Jeongok Park and Elizabeth Tinsley on Thursday, March 30.

Historically within larger architectural engineering firms, landscape architects have played a supporting role in the larger project progression. At Gresham Smith, we work alongside our design and engineering peers to envision and develop a project from start to finish. This process impacts all experience levels of professionals. Often times we are on teams ranging from 5-50 individuals coming from many different professions and communication between these groups can be challenging. As emerging designers and professionals, we are often asked to take on tasks on projects in which we are learning for the first time or to work with professionals with whom we may have minimal understanding of their knowledge. These relationships ultimately shape how successful a project will be. So, how can we leverage our voices and knowledge to play a vital role in the development of a project? How can we as landscape architects become a vital asset within the larger multi-disciplinary practice? Three emerging professionals within the first 7 years of practice will discuss their experiences in leveraging their voices to become instrumental in the success and progression of a project from planning and representation to funding and implementation. In this panel discussion, the panelist will discuss their experience working on Transportation, Health Care, Multi-Family Development, Public Space, and Urban Design projects alongside allied professionals.
