Senior Transportation Engineer Ronnie Robinson has been named to the board of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West (SLFPA-West). Robinson was appointed to the board by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and confirmed by the Louisiana State Senate. He serves as one of seven board members in a position reserved for an engineer or a professional in a related field who resides outside the district.

The mission of the SLFPA-West is to protect the citizens and businesses of the West Bank of the greater New Orleans area from hurricane and river flooding. This is accomplished by inspecting, operating and maintaining the integrity of the levees, floodwalls and floodgates within the system. SLFPA-West is composed of two levee districts: The West Jefferson Levee District, which serves the west bank portions of Jefferson Parish and the Algiers Levee District, which serves the west bank portions of Orleans Parish. The Authority has jurisdiction over 68 floodgates and 80 miles of levees in the most populated areas of the West Bank of Jefferson Parish and in all of Orleans Parish on the West Bank. There are 47 miles of levees that are part of the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System and 33 miles of levees along the Mississippi River.

“Ronnie has more than three decades of experience as a transportation engineer in Louisiana—first with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and now with Gresham Smith,” said Kent Black, executive vice president of Transportation at Gresham Smith. “He’ll bring that unique experience to serve this important organization and help them achieve its important mission of protecting citizens and businesses in the greater New Orleans area.”
