Gresham Smith is excited to announce that Shawn Wagner has joined the firm’s Water + Environment market as a Senior Technician. Based in Gresham Smith’s Cincinnati, Ohio office, Wagner brings 32 years of experience in water, wastewater and stormwater projects as well as expertise in transmission and distribution water main design, surveying practices and construction management.

Wagner has overseen countless projects from initial planning to completion, but his contributions to the Eden Park water main tunnel and rehabilitation are what he is most proud of. The project required that two 36-inch water mains be replaced by one 54-inch water main inside a tunnel that was constructed during the Civil War. Coordinating with both the Greater Cincinnati Water Works and pipe manufacturer, Wagner’s team completed the job, while also rehabilitating the tunnel. He was also a part of the team that completed the Lick Run conveyance and water main replacement, which included the installation of several water mains of various sizes, isolation valves and welded steel pipe to create a new greenway.

“As our Water + Environment market continues to provide increased service lines for our clients, Shawn’s previous experience will make him a valuable member of our team,” said Water + Environment Vice President Katie Nolan, P.E. “Shawn has the passion and vision necessary to have a positive impact on our staff and water infrastructure design. I am very excited to have him on board.”

Prior to joining Gresham Smith, Wagner served for 32 years as an Engineering Technical Supervisor at the Greater Cincinnati Water Works. He spent 29 years as head of the Capital Improvement group for the design section. During this time, he was responsible for planning and designing Capital Improvement and large diameter Water Main projects, drafting survey plats for property acquisition and coordinating construction projects with local utility jurisdictions. He spent his other three years as head of the Planning and Development group, working on projects in the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County and the City of Mason.

Wagner earned his Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Outside of work, he enjoys hunting, fishing and spending as much time outdoors as possible. He spends time with his family dog Scout, wife and kids.
