Gresham, Smith and Partners is pleased to announce the grand opening of the three-story Growing Together Learning Center in Nashville’s Capitol View mixed-use development. The GS&P-designed space inspires growth and progression for the childcare center’s children through a colorful yet peaceful aesthetic. The design team also prioritized security features throughout the facility and introduced an easy-to-navigate layout. The space is recognized as a health-and-wellness model for child care centers by the Partnership for a Healthier America.

“As a child, a sense of calm and a sense of growth were so important to me – our team made sure to cultivate both of those at Growing Together,” commented Valarie Franklin, project architect at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “We used a soothing color palette of earth tones, blues and greens throughout the interior as well as the rooftop playground, where textured surfaces suggest a land, shore, and water theme when viewed from above. Since most of the children will be spending the better part of the day in this urban space, maximizing natural light was critical in bringing a sense of peace to their built environment. This was achieved through the incorporation of large windows that not only introduce daylight into the building but also provide children and staff with views to the outside, connecting them with their environment.”

Exterior screen-walls enclose an outdoor porch area that serves as the younger children’s play area. The rails of the lanai screen-wall are a grid of vertical and horizontal lines with openings that expand as the child gets older. This progression is in direct correlation with the age group of the classrooms and gives a child a sense of accomplishment for getting older and advancing to another classroom.

GS&P has also designed the 1100 Charlotte Avenue tower and LifeWay Christian Resources’ new corporate headquarters, both located in Capitol View. GS&P’s Corporate and Urban Design expertise has been honed with decades of project experience and continues to be a cornerstone service. The firm’s recent office projects include LifeWay Christian Resources’ new 277,000-square-foot headquarters in downtown Nashville, a 204,000-square-foot corporate headquarters and 15,000-square-foot connector currently under construction in Franklin, Tenn., for Ramsey Solutions, and the award-winning 16-story 1100 Charlotte Avenue office tower in downtown Nashville.
