Gresham Smith Honored with Firm of the Year, Honor and Merit Awards from KYASLA
Gresham, Smith and Partners is proud to announce that for the fourth consecutive year the firm received awards from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (KYASLA). GS&P was recognized as the Firm of the Year, honoring the firm’s commitment to landscape architecture and service to the community. Additionally, the GS&P-designed Lexington Multi-Family Stormwater Retrofit Manual took home an Honor Award of Excellence, the highest recognition possible, while the firm’s design for Beechwood Park was honored with a Merit Award of Achievement for Communication. GS&P staff accepted the awards at a March 2 ceremony held during KYASLA’s Annual Conference in Covington, Ky.

The Lexington Multi-Family Stormwater Retrofit Manual was an effort to re-imagine how aging multi-family properties in Lexington, Ky. treat stormwater. The project team developed a triple bottom line approach for innovative site retrofits that do not simply bury infrastructure, but rather create immersive infrastructure that increases a property’s value socially, economically and ecologically while educating site users and creating a greater network of stormwater and sustainability advocates throughout the city.
Beechwood Park is a one-acre urban park concept designed on the site of former historic Victorian homes in one of Louisville, Ky.’s most highly regarded cultural and historic neighborhoods, The Highlands. In 2014, the Friends of Beechwood Park hired Gresham Smith to develop a vision for revitalizing the vacant property that celebrated the lot’s history while providing a 21st century park space. The project team developed a conceptual plan and framework for the project and provided support for communication campaigns, helping the group sell the idea and raise funding through the use of virtual reality technology.
The KYASLA Professional Design Awards provide a forum for the review and evaluation of work currently shaping the industry’s environment and highlight achievements in landscape architecture throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky to a wide audience. Honor Awards indicate a superior professional accomplishment. At the 2017 awards ceremony, GS&P-designed Rsquared 40212/Produce Park received an Honor Award for Built Work and the GS&P-developed 36 Miles: Revealing the Ohio art installation received an Honor Award for Communication.
