Gresham, Smith and Partners is proud to announce that the firm has been selected by St. Vincent’s Healthcare to provide architecture, engineering and interior design services for a $55 million expansion at the health system’s Riverside Medical Center. The facility will be a heart and vascular pavilion, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to meet the expanding needs of the Jacksonville community.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with St. Vincent’s Healthcare to expand their Riverside Medical Center,” commented Joe Bucci, AIA, senior architect, Gresham, Smith and Partners. “A modern, functionally designed heart and vascular pavilion with a human-centered environment will elevate the patient experience, staff satisfaction and overall delivery of cardiovascular care. Through the development of thoughtful, dynamic design solutions that integrate advanced technology and account for future adaptability and flexibility, the facility will support operations and the growth of the Jacksonville community.”

The 60,000-square-foot addition to the four-story facility will primarily be used to treat heart and vascular needs, housing 30 medical and surgical rooms and 30 intensive care rooms. Additionally, the design team will renovate approximately 20,000-square-feet of existing space within the hospital. The design will include a subsection within the ICU devoted to recovery for patients who undergo open-heart surgeries and other cardiovascular procedures.

In addition to the expansion at St. Vincent’s Riverside Medical Center, GS&P is currently providing architecture, engineering and interior design services for St. Vincent’s Northside, Waycross, Arlington and Westside Urgent Care Centers, supporting the organization’s goal of building 10 urgent care facilities across Northeast Florida in the next 24 to 36 months.

GS&P’s dedicated Healthcare staff approach each project through the lens of Value-Added Design. Value-Added Design is a dynamic, holistic framework in which teams explore and define what is important to clients with a focus on key performance indicators: patient safety; operational efficiencies; integration of technology; adaptability/resiliency; healthy, sustainable buildings; and human experience through evidence-based design. This approach gives clients the opportunity to assess and prepare for inevitable market shifts.
