GS&P’s Sean Flaherty to Talk Sustainable Transportation Choices for Charlotte’s Growth
Gresham, Smith and Partners announces that Transportation Planner Sean Flaherty will talk sustainable transportation choices for Charlotte, N.C.’s future during a panel discussion at the first annual Charlotte Sustainability Summit. The event, which is being sponsored by the Integrated Network for Social Sustainability and Sustain Charlotte, will be held June 7-9 at the University of North Carolina Charlotte’s Center City campus.

Transportation Choices for a Sustainable Future
By the year 2030 Charlotte will have 400,000 more residents. As people move to the region, they’re bringing their cars, but they’re not bringing any roads or infrastructure with them. For the average Charlotte household, transportation costs consume 22 percent of household income. It’s more important than ever for Charlotte to invest in sustainable transportation networks and become a city where everyone can easily travel by walking, biking, or public transit. Following a presentation about Charlotte’s transportation challenges and opportunities, session attendees will take a short guided walk to the Seventh Street Public Market and Charlotte Transportation Center to learn how different modes of transportation can be used together.
