Gresham Smith Executive Vice President of Healthcare Jim Langlois, AIA, LEED AP, has been named a 2021 Health Care Hero by the Charlotte Business Journal. Honored in the “Allied Health Professional” category, Jim was recognized for his healthcare design leadership and the ways he has helped better the health of greater Charlotte communities.

A Charlotte resident for two decades, Jim has helped the region’s healthcare industry navigate smart, sustainable growth. Since joining Gresham Smith in 2019, he and his teams have served a wide array of clients, including Novant Health, Atrium Health and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and have completed numerous projects such as the 207,000-square-foot full-service Novant Mint Hill Medical Center and renovations to the 204-bed inpatient unit at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center.

“I am honored to be recognized among fellow Charlotte leaders making an impact in our community,” Langlois said. “At Gresham Smith, we live by our brand promise of Genuine Ingenuity and our culture of caring. Community vitality is at the heart of our work, and I look forward to the ways our team will continue to design spaces for health and wellness.”

Jim is an active member of the American Institute of Architects and has served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer for the organization’s Charlotte section. He previously served on UNC Charlotte’s College of Arts & Architecture’s Board of Advisors and led Gresham Smith’s Charlotte office in collaborating with the University on a studio course, working hand-in-hand with master’s students to bridge the gap between academia and the realities of professional practice. Jim also helps drive conversations about the future of healthcare, having spoken on COVID-19’s impact on the industry, and travelling to Israel to observe the country’s medical system models and consider how the U.S. might implement best practices.

The Charlotte Business Journal’s “Health Care Heroes” awards program seeks to recognize the professionals in the field of medicine — from doctors to administrators and others — and the organizations that are driving innovation and improvement. A full list of finalists is available here.
