Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Katie Nolan, P.E., a vice president in the firm’s Water + Environment market, has been recognized by the Kentucky/Tennessee section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) as the recipient of the 2020 Outstanding Service Award. The annual award is given to a volunteer member who has given countless hours of service to the section by actively participating in and promoting AWWA programs.

“Katie leads by example, actively committing her time to advancing the industry and, by extension, adding value to the work we do for our clients,” said Jeff Nash, P.E., executive vice president, Gresham Smith. “We are proud of Katie and appreciative to the Kentucky/Tennessee AWWA Section for recognizing her leadership and service.”

A member of Kentucky/Tennessee AWWA since 2013, Nolan has held a variety of positions within the organization. She previously served as the University of Louisville Student Chapter liaison, the Young Professionals Committee chair, co-chair of the Water Professionals Leadership Academy and is currently the chair-elect for the section. She also assists the chapter in organizing the annual Water Professionals Conference. In addition to her work with AWWA, Nolan is a member of Clean Water Professionals of Kentucky & Tennessee and a co-founder of Water for Life, an annual community outreach event promoting the value of water.

For more than a decade, Nolan has been an asset to Gresham Smith’s Water + Environment team, bringing expertise in water, wastewater and stormwater design. She has built long-term relationships with clients like Greater Cincinnati Water Works, Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati and City of Columbus, assisting them with everything from small water line replacements to multi-million-dollar large diameter water line installations, combined sewer separations and stormwater management programs. Katie is currently working with Columbus DOSD on a major wet weather project to reduce sanitary sewer overflows through improved stormwater infrastructure.

The KY/TN Section of AWWA is one of 43 sections of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the largest non-profit, scientific, and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water to effectively manage water and protect public health throughout Kentucky and Tennessee.
