June 22, 2021

Gresham Smith is excited to welcome Matt Smith as the Middle Tennessee construction engineering and inspection (CE&I) department leader in the firm’s Transportation market. He brings more than 22 years of experience delivering professional engineering services. Smith will apply his project delivery, utility coordination, staff and business development, and client relation skills to expand Gresham Smith’s CE&I practice in Tennessee.

Smith most recently spent more than a decade at WSP USA, Inc., where he managed the Tennessee construction services operations. He was responsible for overseeing construction operations for various types of transportation projects for many clients; including DOT’s, municipalities and transit agencies. Projects included utility coordination and deconfliction, major road and bridge construction, ATMS, and ITS. Prior to that, he was a construction office project supervisor for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, where he managed department staff on multiple large construction projects simultaneously. He has served in management roles for almost two decades.

He will use his expertise to continue strategically enhancing and expanding the CE&I business portfolio at Gresham Smith. Smith will collaborate with the firm’s various department leaders to strengthen their position in the CE&I industry.

“Matt has a proven track record of delivering high quality results for his clients,” said Andy Lucyshyn, P.E., PTOE, Middle Tennessee area transportation leader at Gresham Smith. “He’s a seasoned industry leader, and we’re excited to bring him on board as someone who can elevate our CE&I practice and mentor our next generation of leaders as well.”

Smith received his bachelor of science in civil engineering from Mississippi State University. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his three young daughters. He also enjoys golfing, cheering on his favorite sports teams and flipping houses.
