New Senior Leaders Join Gresham Smith’s Georgia Transportation Team
Gresham Smith continues to add to the leadership of its team that serves state and local clients in Georgia. Jin Liu, P.E., has joined the firm as a senior bridge engineer, while Michelle Wright and Daniel Chastain have come aboard as senior project managers. All will be based in the Greater Atlanta area.

At Gresham Smith, Liu will lead bridge design as well as manage other junior engineers in the practice. Wright and Chastain will oversee projects within different components of Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) traffic operations and safety program, including roundabouts, intersection improvements, pedestrian upgrades, rumble strips and other operational and safety improvements.
Liu has 27 years of experience in the design and load rating of bridges, retaining walls, culverts, overhead signs and other highway structures. Previously, he held similar roles with RS&H, HNTB and Arcadis U.S., where he worked on projects throughout the Southeast, including in Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Science in bridge engineering from Tong University in Shanghai, China, and his Master of Science in civil engineering from Florida State University. He’s a registered engineer in Georgia and Florida, and he’s a member of the American Society of Civil Engineering as well as the American Institute of Steel Construction.
Wright joins the firm after 28 years of transportation experience with GDOT, most recently as assistant district program manager with the Office of Program Delivery. She also served as area engineer with GDOT, where she oversaw a team of more than 50 employees and consultants. She received her Bachelor of Science in civil engineering technology from Georgia Southern University.
Chastain joins the firm after more than 18 years of experience with GDOT. Previously, he served as an assistant area-engineer overseeing 35 construction projects with contracts totaling $135 million. Before that role, he served as a project manager within the Office of Program Delivery, where he oversaw 25 projects with a budget of over $240 million. He received his Associate of Science in business administration from Gordon College.
