GS&P Adds Senior Transportation Engineer in Birmingham

Marc Thompson to Bring Transportation Engineering, Construction Management Experience

Gresham, Smith and Partners announces that Marc Thompson, P.E., has joined the firm as a senior transportation engineer in the Birmingham office. He brings more than 20 years of experience in transportation design and construction management for Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and other municipalities and government agency projects throughout Alabama. At GS&P, he will provide project management and transportation engineering services to support the growth of the firm’s Transportation market in Alabama.

“Marc is a standout engineer in the Alabama transportation industry, offering a well-rounded perspective and valuable experience with the construction side of transportation design,” said Blair Perry, P.E., GS&P’s State Transportation Leader for Alabama. “He is familiar with a range of project types including highway design, site design, widening, resurfacing and bridge replacement, and he spent four years at a local construction company managing roadway construction projects. Marc’s strong background with ALDOT and broad knowledge of Alabama’s infrastructure will be a major asset to our GS&P team and clients.”

“My career has afforded me a unique skillset as it pertains to roadway design and roadway safety,” commented Thompson. “I work hard to help my clients reach their potential through inspired, functional solutions that are still cost-effective and delivered on schedule. My passion is designing and building projects that make a difference in our Alabama communities, and collaborating closely with my teammates to achieve success.

Thompson most recently served as a project manager at CDG Engineers and Associates, Inc., in Birmingham. In that position, he led site and transportation design projects from inception to completion, including construction engineering and inspection (CE&I). One of his most recent projects was the Denton Road bridge replacement and widening in Dothan, Ala., which completed in the first quarter of 2017. He also spent several years as a project manager with DMJM Harris | AECOM and as a senior estimator and project manager with Ellard Construction, Inc. Outside of the office, Thompson is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
