Gresham, Smith and Partners, a leading multi-disciplinary design and consulting firm for the built environment, announces that Christina Florez, P.E., recently joined GS&P as a senior transportation engineer in the firm’s Baton Rouge office. Florez brings more than 16 years of experience in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), having served as the lead engineer and project manager for a wide variety of projects. Her background includes design-build projects, integrated corridor management (ICM) planning studies, ITS design and construction support, field inspection and testing, variable-speed-limit (VSL) systems, transportation systems management and operations, systems engineering analyses, incident management system (IMS), and reversible-lane plan development. Florez will focus on serving GS&P’s existing clients in Louisiana and Florida as well as provide business development assistance to support regional growth.

Florez most recently served as a project manager at Gannett Fleming in Miami, Fl., where she was the company’s Southeast ITS market leader focused on the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)’s District Six. During her time at Gannett Fleming, she was the ITS project manager for the S.R. 826/S.R. 836 Interchange Reconstruction design-build in Miami-Dade County, which included systems engineering management documentation, development of the ITS master plan, project design, development of test plans, report preparation, and post-design services. She was also ITS project manager for U.S. Route 1/Florida East Coast Railroad Structures project for the expansion of Runway 9R-27L at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, which included the design and installation of two separate ITS systems for the Broward County Aviation Department and the Florida Department of Transportation.
Outside of the office, Florez is an active member of the Florida Engineering Society (FES) and the Women in Transportation Society (WTS). Florez earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Florida International University.
