Gresham, Smith and Partners announces the firm’s recent contracts with the Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) to provide design and engineering services for two new transportation projects. For the first project, GS&P will design intersection and sidewalk improvements for McCollum Parkway at Big Shanty Road and Ben King Road. For the second project, the firm will design a bridge replacement for Willeo Road over Willeo Creek, as part of the county’s Bridge Replacement Program. Both projects support enhanced connectivity and safety in Cobb County.

“GS&P has a strong, long-standing relationship with Cobb County and deep knowledge of their community and infrastructure,” said Scott Shelton, P.E., senior transportation engineer at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “We look forward to applying our experience to these new efforts that will improve traffic operations, driver safety and connectivity for the county’s residents. Our team understands that successful infrastructure is essential to the county’s long-term growth and economic development, and we appreciate these latest opportunities to help Cobb County achieve their goals.”

The McCollum Parkway project will include the development of a roundabout or signalized intersection at Big Shanty Road and Ben King Road in Kennesaw, Ga. The team will also design new sidewalks along the north side of Big Shanty Road from McCollum Parkway to the existing sidewalk on Wetherbyrne Road, as well as along the west side of McCollum Parkway from Big Shanty/Ben King Road to Olympic Lane.

The Willeo Bridge project between Roswell’s Bywater Trail and Timber Ridge Road/Lower Roswell Road will include the design of a low-maintenance, cost-constrained bridge replacement structure that revitalizes an important connection between East Cobb County and the City of Roswell. The team will work to minimize impacts to utilities and adjacent properties owned by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE) and National Park Service. GS&P will provide conceptual layouts, preliminary designs, right-of-way-plans, environmental screenings and final designs for both projects, in addition to leading public outreach efforts.

GS&P’s Transportation professionals deliver comprehensive planning, design, environmental, architectural and construction phase services for highway, transit, aviation and rail facilities throughout the Southeast. The staff of engineers, planners and scientists capitalize on the firm’s diverse blend of markets and disciplines to offer a truly integrated and sustainable approach that considers all perspectives and offers practical, forward-thinking solutions. GS&P has completed more than a hundred bridge replacement and intersection improvement projects in Georgia, including Cobb County’s Grimes Bridge Road bridge replacement and the Lower Roswell Road East intersection project, which terminates at the Willeo Road Bridge.

“GS&P has a strong, long-standing relationship with Cobb County and deep knowledge of their community and infrastructure. We look forward to applying our experience to these new efforts that will improve traffic operations, driver safety and connectivity for the county’s residents.”
