Gresham, Smith and Partners announces the completion of a new headquarters for 121 Financial Credit Union in Jacksonville, Fla. GS&P provided architecture, interior design, workplace strategy, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering, structural engineering, graphics and branding services for the 25,000-square-foot, three-story project. 121 Financial sought to reimagine the banking experience with a fresh, new building concept, relocated from the suburbs to Jacksonville’s Riverside area.

“Our team designed this space with two types of users in mind: the member and the employee,” commented Trevor Lee, AIA, NCARB, principal-in-charge at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “For employees, we wanted to improve collaboration between departments, break down physical barriers and introduce work style flexibility. We also strived to create ample opportunities for one-on-one interactions with members in an environment that is comfortable, transparent and inclusive, with a little bit of an edge. It was exciting to help 121 Financial rebrand their organization with a headquarters that pushes the envelope on the banking experience.”

Prior to the design, GS&P led workplace strategy sessions with 121 department leaders, allowing staff to voice opinions and concerns and become part of the design process. Anonymous surveys were also conducted to inform the layout and character of the space. The new facility consolidates three locations in a single open floor plan office. It houses a call center, collections, business services, finance and loans, risk management, HR, IT and marketing, as well as training rooms, team spaces, focus rooms, shared conference spaces, a work café and executive suites. GS&P also introduced employee-friendly amenities such as a fitness center and wellness room. The design supports evolving member and employee needs, creating a modern image that appeals to current members while attracting a growing millennial demographic.

GS&P’s Corporate expertise has been honed with years of project experience and continues to be a cornerstone service. The firm’s recent workplace projects include the Baptist North Medical Campus Medical Office Building in Jacksonville, multiple tenants including a First Coast YMCA branch in Jacksonville, award-winning 16-story 1100 Charlotte Avenue office tower in Nashville, Tenn., and the new 12,760-square-foot DOW Electronics corporate office near Tampa, Fla.

“For employees, we wanted to improve collaboration between departments, break down physical barriers and introduce work style flexibility. We also strived to create ample opportunities for one-on-one interactions with members in an environment that is comfortable, transparent and inclusive, with a little bit of an edge. ”
