Gresham, Smith and Partners announces the completion of Phase I of the Thompson’s Station Greenway project in Thompson’s Station, Tenn., approximately 30 minutes south of Nashville. The GS&P-designed greenway will provide better connectivity for residents to access local schools, parks, businesses and historic landmarks. Upon completion of all phases, it will also offer a safe and convenient alternative to traditional transportation methods and promote health and physical activity. GS&P provided planning, surveying, design and construction inspection services for the project.

“This greenway addresses a number of challenges in Thompson’s Station including increased traffic volumes, a lack of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and impeded access to some popular community destinations,” commented Mike Hunkler, P.E., principal-in-charge at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “Thompson’s Station residents wanted more options for traveling between home, work, school, church, the community and the town’s beautiful outdoor spaces. It was rewarding to work with leaders to identify the right solution and to now see that the project is being used in the way we envisioned.”

“The new Thompson’s Station Greenway is a major asset to our community,” said Joe Cosenti, Thompson’s Station Town Administrator. “This project serves as a common thread connecting our residents to many of the amenities that make Thompson’s Station great. GS&P worked hard to understand our goals and bring this vision to life, and we look forward to the continued value it will add to our community.”

Phase I of the greenway is a 0.84-mile asphalt trail running from Tollgate Village to Thompson’s Station Dog Park and Community Garden. It passes under Highway 840 loosely paralleling the high-volume Highway 31. Other greenway future phases will be constructed at a later date, completing the Thompson’s Station Greenway Trail system. The project was funded by a Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Enhancement Grant from the Federal Highway Administration.
