Gresham, Smith and Partners announces that the firm was recently awarded three healthcare architecture and interior design projects: Shanghai Lanhai Rehab Hospital, Nantong People’s Hospital and ZhengZhou Mei’er Hospital Campus. The firm was selected for each project through international design competitions. The designs further establish GS&P as a healthcare design innovator and thought leader on an international level while supporting the firm’s focus on growth within China.

“With China undergoing significant healthcare reform, the delivery of care is evolving and patient expectations are changing,” said Kevin K. S. Kim, AIA, design principal at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “Through the cutting-edge aesthetics of these three facilities, combined with evidence-based design considerations to improve operations and the overall patient experience, we aim to support enhanced patient outcomes and position our clients for success. It is an honor to be selected for these projects and help to shape the future of healthcare in China.”

GS&P will serve as the architect and interior designer for Shanghai Lanhai Rehab Hospital, located on the Shanghai New Hongqiao Medical Campus. The specialty rehabilitation hospital project consists of around 215,000 square feet and 200 beds. The Lanhai Rehab Hospital will connect to the Shared Services Facility that recently completed construction on the Campus. The world-first, 947,806-square-foot, eight-story support facility designed by GS&P houses vital resources such as logistical, clinical and public support services for the campus’ hospitals and specialty clinics, including the rehab facility.

Nantong People’s Hospital will be the first hospital to be built on the planned Nantong Central Innovation Center international medical campus. Phase one of Nantong People’s Hospital comprises around 4.5 million square feet and 2,600 beds, focused on Cardiovascular and Neuro services and houses academic and education research, clinics and infectious disease services. GS&P’s design is focused on delivering an environmentally-conscious, operationally-efficient and modern hospital focused that provides quality care and patient satisfaction.

ZhengZhou Mei’er Hospital Campus, planned for China’s Henan province, is a two-phase project consisting of approximately 3.2 million total square feet. Phase one will include the development of an international hospital, a women and children’s center, a plastic surgery center, an EENT center and outpatient clinics which together will comprise nearly 946,000 square feet. ZhengZhou Mei’er Hospital Campus will offer full healthcare services to all of central China.

GS&P’s dedicated Healthcare staff approach each project through the lens of Value-Added Design. Value-Added Design is a dynamic, holistic framework in which teams explore and define what is important to clients with a focus on key performance indicators: patient safety; operational efficiencies; integration of technology; adaptability/resiliency; healthy, sustainable buildings; and human experience through evidence-based design. This approach gives clients the opportunity to assess and prepare for inevitable market shifts.
