Gresham, Smith and Partners announces the firm has been selected as a sub-consultant on six new engineering projects for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)’s Districts 2, 3 and 5. The projects stretch from Escambia, Florida’s westernmost counties, to Osceola and Brevard Counties south of Orlando, expanding the firm’s geographic reach through most of the state. The new contracts are focused on improving safety and traffic flow along numerous roadways through a variety of lighting and traffic-signal improvements as well as Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSM&O) studies.

“GS&P is now under contract in nearly every FDOT district, and our practice is still continuing to grow,” said Tyler Strickland, P.E., J.D., Florida State Transportation Leader at Gresham, Smith and Partners. “Our firm has a long-standing reputation in Florida and the Southeast as a go-to engineering firm for roadway and traffic design services, but we’re excited to have these opportunities to grow into new regions and expand our disciplines. Our latest projects are focused on safety and lighting, which are essential to any thriving community’s infrastructure. It’s an honor to do this work for FDOT and Florida’s residents and visitors, and we look forward to partnering with other firms as we continue to grow.”

Details about the projects are as follows:

GS&P is a sub-consultant to Prosser, Inc., in FDOT District 2 for a mile-long resurfacing project on I-95/S.R. 152 at Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville/Duval County. GS&P’s role is to improve pedestrian safety at the signalized intersections by designing upgraded retrofit lighting at the Western Way, Baymeadows Circle West and Baymeadows Circle East intersections.

GS&P is a sub-consultant to Eisman & Russo, Inc., in FDOT District 2 for a 0.9-mile resurfacing project at I-95/S.R. 9 in Jacksonville/Duval County. GS&P will upgrade the existing signal at the S.R. 115 interchange by installing signals at the south-bound ramp intersection and upgrading signals at the north-bound ramp intersection. They will also upgrade the corridor lighting along I-95 from Moncrief Creek to S.R. 111, and improve the lighting at the S.R. 115 interchange intersections to support pedestrian safety. Additionally, the team will provide signing and pavement marking design.

GS&P is a sub-consultant to Eisman & Russo, Inc., for two projects in FDOT District 3. The first is the resurfacing of a 1.3-mile span of S.R. 20 (Blountstown Road) from S.R. 366 (Pensacola Street) to S.R. 10/US 90 (Tennessee Street) in Tallahassee/Leon County. GS&P will upgrade the existing signal at the S.R. 20/S.R. 10 intersection by replacing the span-wire system with mast arms, as well as improve intersection lighting to support pedestrian safety.

The second project is a sidewalk project along S.R. 63/U.S. 27 from Clara Kee Boulevard to Harriet Drive in Tallahassee/Leon County. GS&P will upgrade the existing signal at the Faulk Drive/S.R. 63 intersection by adding pedestrian signals for two new crosswalks. The project is part of the Safe Routes to School program.

GS&P is a sub-consultant to Gannett Fleming, Inc., for TSM&O studies and interstates/arterials design throughout FDOT District 5, including Volusia, Brevard, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Marion, and Lake Counties. Specific assignments may include alternative intersection studies, hard shoulder running studies, TSM&O arterial corridor studies, TSM&O pedestrian & bicycle safety improvements, transit signal priory studies and design, bridge security design, and final design plans for ITS such as dynamic message signs, CCTV cameras, detection devices, and telecommunications.

GS&P is a sub-consultant to Florida Transportation Engineering (FTE) in FDOT District 3 for a district-wide signal timing contract. GS&P will be responsible for traffic timing models and adjustments to intersection signals in the field.

“GS&P is now under contract in nearly every FDOT district, and our practice is still continuing to grow. Our latest projects are focused on safety and lighting, which are essential to any thriving community’s infrastructure.
