Gresham, Smith and Partners announces the firm has been selected by Newton County Public Works to provide roadway design and bridge engineering services for a bridge replacement on Brown Bridge Road over Snapping Shoals Creek in Covington, Ga. GS&P will also lead public outreach efforts including informational sessions and construction timeline updates. The new bridge will provide improved safety and access from the existing bridge which constructed in 1963 and carries two lanes of traffic with no shoulders.

“Given the current structure’s age and condition, a replacement bridge is needed to provide Newton County with a safe, structurally sound bridge that will last for many decades,” commented Tom Tran, P.E., senior transportation engineer, Gresham, Smith and Partners. “We look forward to drawing on our prior experience working with Newton County and GDOT to develop a cost-effective, low-maintenance bridge that will improve the traveler experience on Brown Bridge Road.”

As part of the design process, the project team will perform a bridge hydraulic study and a bridge foundation investigation. GS&P will also provide plans for signing and marking, right-of-way, utilities, drainage and erosion control. GS&P will take measures to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the GDOT Environmental Procedures Manual.

GS&P’s Transportation professionals have completed numerous bridge replacement projects across the state of Georgia, including the State Route 10/US 78 Westbound Bridge over the Apalachee River, the College Station Road Bridge in Athens, the State Route 324 Bridge over I-85 and the Grimes Bridge Road Bridge over Big Creek. GS&P’s Transportation professionals deliver comprehensive planning, design, environmental, architectural and construction phase services for highway, transit, aviation and rail facilities throughout the Southeast. The firm is currently providing transportation engineering services throughout the state of Georgia for projects in Gwinnett County, Cobb County, Athens-Clarke County, Laurens County, Newton County, Douglas County, Lowndes County and others.
