Gresham Smith announces that Emery Sayre, P.E., has joined the firm as a senior transportation engineer. He will offer bridge design leadership and project experience to Transportation clients and staff. Sayre brings 17 years of experience in structural bridge design, inspection and bridge construction engineering for both new bridges and repairs/rehabilitations.

“Emery’s bridge design experience, and his background in the construction world, will be a tremendous asset as we continue growing the bridge design practice in our Jackson office,” commented Randy Battey, P.E., Mississippi State Transportation Leader at Gresham Smith. “He brings a mix of new bridge design and bridge rehabilitation experience, and he’s able to understand projects from the perspective of both the client and contractor. Most importantly, Emery is known for his ability to think outside the box in order to generate the most effective results for clients. We are very pleased to welcome him to our team.”

“I’m looking forward to the chance to grow the depth and breadth of Gresham Smith’s Transportation services in Mississippi,” said Sayre. “My passion is working with clients to help them maintain their infrastructure and extend the life of their bridges that are already in place. By using engineering expertise, we can help them better meet tomorrow’s demand and make the best use of their funding dollars. It’s an incredibly rewarding industry, and I’m ready to dive in and tackle the challenging jobs.”

Sayre was most recently a civil engineer and cost estimator with Century Construction Group, Inc., in Tupelo, Miss., where he focused on project management and cost estimates for heavy construction, civil and demolition projects. Sayre was also a civil engineer at the Rockdale County Department of Transportation in Conyers, Ga., and he spent five years in the Bridge Division at the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). Sayre earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Mississippi.
