Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Krystal Anderson, AIA, Mayda V. Colón, AIA, and Sarah Stumpo, have been elected to the American Institute of Architects Richmond chapter Board of Directors. Anderson will serve as the chapter’s president during 2019, while Colón and Stumpo will serve as directors. They will focus on advancing architecture among design professionals as well as expanding awareness and appreciation among the general public.

“I am proud of Krystal, Mayda and Sarah for their commitment to helping advance our industry by driving advocacy within the AIA Richmond chapter,” commented Dave King, AIA, regional vice president at Gresham Smith. “AIA Richmond plays an important role in contributing to community vitality as well as providing professional development opportunities. I look forward to seeing how these architects implement their innovative ideas to drive our industry and community forward.”

Aviation Architect Krystal Anderson, AIA, has nearly seven years of experience designing mixed-use and historical rehabilitation spaces, as well as thoughtful, tailored solutions that enhance the airport passenger experience. Since joining Gresham Smith in 2017, she has worked on numerous expansion and renovation projects at Norfolk International Airport. As the recipient of Gresham Smith’s 2018 Community Impact Award, Anderson embodies the firm’s commitment to giving back. Outside of her Board commitment, Anderson leads the organization of AIA Richmond’s annual CANstruction event benefiting hunger-relief organization Feed More.

An Architect in the firm’s Richmond Healthcare studio, Mayda V. Colón, AIA, has nearly 10 years of experience developing designs that improve the health of communities. Her recent projects include Sentara Belleharbour’s new medical office building and Novant Health’s Mint Hill Medical center, both of which celebrated grand openings in 2018. Colón is also committed to her community, volunteering with USGBC’s Connect the Dots program and the city of Richmond’s Richmond 300 master plan update.

Sarah Stumpo is an architectural project coordinator in Gresham Smith’s Richmond Aviation studio and has nearly four years of experience changing how passengers get on the move. She is part of the project team designing upgrades at Richmond International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. In addition to her new role on the Board, Stumpo is a member of AIA Richmond’s Young Architects and Government & Community Affairs committees, working to connect architects to the community they live in.
