As part of its mission to develop near-term, practical solutions to problems faced by airport operators, the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) selected Gresham Smith to create a guidebook to help small airports enhance their environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.

Many small airports have limited financial resources and environmental expertise. Report 43 provides managers of small airports with a resource to promote environmental awareness, identify federal environmental compliance requirements, outline practices that proactively enhance environmental stewardship, and identify resources/tools that airports can use to be proactive – often at little or no capital cost.

The guidebook includes high-level overviews of federal environmental compliance requirements, laws, regulations and other directives. Case studies of programs implemented by other airports provide further insight into the practical realities of proactive environmental stewardship.

Gresham Smith led the development of Report 43, with support from Vanessa Hangen Brustlin, Inc. and KB Environmental Sciences Inc.
