The Electric Power Board of Chattanooga contracted with Gresham Smith to provide design services for the relocation of a section of overhead 13kV distribution facilities and overhead fiber optic facilities to accommodate a Tennessee Department of Transportation roadway widening project along Apison Pike in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

Our design included installation of single, double and triple-circuit framing utilizing a mixture of 1033 AAC open-wire conductor and 1033 AAC spacer (bundled) cable as well more than 60,000 linear feet of fiber optic cables ranging from 2-count fiber to 423-count fiber. During design, the team had to account for several new bridge crossings and a complex arrangement that required tying in the proposed overhead relocation into multiple underground exit circuits from an existing 69kV/13kV substation that was impacted by the roadway project. We also provided construction inspection services for the installation of the new facilities and removal of existing facilities on the project.
