Charter Communications employs more than 21,000 personnel and provides cable television, high-speed Internet and telephone services to more than 5.7 million customers in 29 states. As a long-time, on-call consultant to Charter, Gresham Smith has developed many schematic plans for its retail stores based on a Gresham Smith-designed prototype.
In developing a new brand for its stores, Charter called upon Gresham Smith to craft a fresh retail space that was adaptable to various store sizes and configurations required by a multi-store rollout. Charter selected a 5,200-square-foot space in Greenville, South Carolina, as the first store to develop and implement the new design, giving Gresham Smith just 18 weeks to complete the project.
The new design prototype provides customer service representatives with clear sightlines throughout the store. The convenient location of equipment storage and multiple interactive areas give the employees efficient access to the tools needed to work together with customers. A queue station to welcome customers, along with a video monitor to display the customers’ place in the queue, is located at the entry of the store.
