A leading global battery manufacturer for electric vehicles selected Gresham Smith to provide full planning and design services to renovate and expand an existing 400,000 square-foot building into an approximately 900,000 square-foot battery manufacturing and R&D facility. The project will be completed in three phases.

In Phase 1A, a 2 gigawatt hours (GWh) production line will be added to the existing structure. A new structure will be constructed to house mixing operations for the slurry that will be applied to anode and cathode substrate. The existing building will house the coating operations, rolling, cutting, stacking, assembly, drying, aging, formation, storage, module and packing. A new building will be constructed for finished goods storage and shipping. The existing plant office area will be upgraded and expanded.

For Phase 1B, an additional 2 GWh production line will be added to the existing structure. During Phase 2—the third and final phase—an additional 500,000 square-foot building will be constructed to house an additional 4 GWh future line.
