In 2006, International Truck and Engine Corporation (now a Navistar, Inc. company) called on Gresham Smith to design a new 300,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art engine assembly plant. Now, over a decade later, we’ve been asked to design and provide construction management services for a 110,000 square-foot, $125 million expansion of the same plant to accommodate Navistar’s new engine line with state-of-the-art inspection points. A key consideration for this project is ensuring that construction of the expansion does not interfere with current engine production. Working closely with our client, our team was able to bring the capital costs for the building well below expectations while continuing to provide a world class facility. The Huntsville Big Bore Engine Plant will produce high-quality and high-reliability engines for years to come.
