Nashville’s population is at an all-time high, and as more families move to Music City the need for child care continues to grow. Located in the Capitol View mixed-use development, Growing Together Learning Center fills a need for parents working in the downtown core. The three-story, 34,000-square-foot Gresham Smith-designed space is a colorful, educational environment that enhances the Center’s curriculum and sparks creativity in Nashville’s youngest residents, giving them the skills they need to succeed in grade school and beyond.

Small Footprint, Big Impact
The project team maximized the Center’s 8,000-square-foot footprint. The first and second floors house classrooms, the third floor is home to a rooftop playground and a first floor lanai gives children additional outdoor play space and access to fresh air. Large windows in each classroom provide an abundance of natural light and keep students connected to their surroundings.Right-Sized Design Solutions
Our client envisioned a learning center where students would have the world at their fingertips and learn independence. We incorporated kid-sized versions of sinks, toilets, and reading nooks and designed the lanai wall at child-height for unobstructed views of the outside.Safety First
Gresham Smith’s design team not only worked with the Center to bring their design vision to life, but also worked with the Department of Human Services, building code officials and fire marshals to verify the space was safe and secure. Thanks to the team’s attention to detail, Growing Together Learning Center is recognized as a health-and-wellness model for child care centers by the Partnership for a Healthier America.Project Contact
