Headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, MAPCO Express is one of the largest company-operated convenience store chains in the United States, and one of the leading C-store operators in the Southeast. Often a sight for sore eyes for weary travelers, the familiar chain provides retail, food and fuel stops for motorists in need.

Since 2018, Gresham Smith has served as a preferred civil engineering consultant directly for MAPCO, providing site development services for multiple MAPCO Express locations throughout Middle Tennessee, and bringing our vast range of experience in C-store and prototype site design to the company’s prototype program.

Submit, Review, Revise & Resubmit!

Submit, Review, Revise & Resubmit!

Our scope of work involves confirming vehicle access, including critical fuel trucks, for tight site locations. This is true for new greenfield sites for MAPCO Express as well as for raze and rebuild with new construction.

As part of this process, we assist MAPCO in facilitating site permitting. This involves submittals to multiple agencies, reviews and revisions to comply with sometimes directly conflicting requirements, and then resubmitting.

Our success in overcoming these many obstacles is largely due to leaning on our years of experience and ongoing relationships with local public agencies, such as Metro Public Works, Metro Water Services Stormwater Division, the Metropolitan Planning Commission, and the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Mitigating Stormwater Runoff

Mitigating Stormwater Runoff

As pollutants from service stations can be easily transported by clean water and discharged into stormwater drains, we are also providing environmentally conscious designs for MAPCO. This includes bioretention for stormwater quality filtration as well as underground stormwater detention for tight sites.
Facilitating Successful Site Development

Facilitating Successful Site Development

Our utility coordination, both on-site and off-site, includes juggling water, sewer, stormwater, gas, cable, telephone and electric—all necessary for successful, on-time store openings. Our expertise and experience support the C-store giant in living up to its well-known trademark: Things Just Got Good at MAPCO!
