Nemours, one of the nation’s leading pediatric health systems, sought to consolidate their business management facilities from multiple locations into a single, more flexible and cost-effective office building capable of accommodating nearly 400 employees. The project would help move the company toward a new culture, One Nemours, creating a better sense of unity among staff.

Gresham Smith’s solution included an “inside-out” approach to the design, defining the culture in visioning sessions with the client that ultimately shaped the building. The result is two structures totaling 106,000 square feet connected by a centralized three-story lobby atrium. Bridges connect each office level through the atrium and meeting spaces are grouped around the lobby perimeter. To the east, a larger building houses shared amenities, including a fitness center, cyber lounge and employee café, and office spaces that are designed to be flexible and efficient. To the west, a smaller building houses meeting and training facilities for employees visiting from other hospitals and clinics. To reflect the Nemours culture and help provide a positive, uplifting environment for Nemours staff and visitors alike, the firm created a sculptural relief portrait and quote by A.I. duPont on the building’s exterior, and designed a three-story large-format graphic for the lobby, depicting children served by the Foundation.
